Scandpower and Lloyd's Register win UK framework agreement for technical support to The Nuclear Directorate

As part of the “nuclear renaissance” in Great Britain, the British Health and Safety Executive (HSE), through the Nuclear Directorate, is performing a general design assessment of possible future reactor concepts. The number of reactor designs evaluated has now been reduced to the final three: Areva and EDF’s European Pressurised Water Reactor; GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy’s Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor (ESBWR); and Westinghouse Electric Company’s AP1000.

In mid 2008, LR and Scandpower together with Tony Gee & Partners (Civil, Structural and Geotechnical Engineers) formed a consortium aimed at winning a framework agreement with the British Nuclear Directorate for participation in the evaluation of these reactor concepts. Our bid covered a number of different areas. We have now successfully secured framework agreements within the following areas:
• internal hazards
• probabilistic safety analysis
• management for safety and quality assurance

All of these areas are part of Relcon Scandpower and Scandpower core services. The project is well in line with Scandpower plans for development of our activities within the nuclear field.
