Accident Statistics
Accident statistics is often the starting point in a quantitative risk assessment. Based generic data reported from the industry in question is an important input to the risk analysis to have an historical basis or reference level as a starting point or as a benchmark for calibration of results. After many years in practise, Scandpower has established a Data Dossier document which is updated at regular intervals in order to represent the latest statistics in the field.
The Scandpower Data Dossier contains accident statistics and failure rates within the following topics:
- Blowouts: Statistics are based on the Sintef world wide blowout data base.
- Riser and Pipeline Accidents: Leak statistics collected from PARLOC statistical report (relevant for North Sea riser/pipelines) and from various national onshore oil and gas pipeline statistics
- Component Failure Data: Statistics collected from the HSE Hydrocarbon
- Release (HCR) Statistics: State of the art offshore leak statistics from the UK sector in the North Sea, OREDA statistics and various other sources
- Crane Accident Statistics: Statistics from offshore crane accident (e.g. drop of crane loads) collected from the authority supported statistical data bases for Norway and UK
- Ignition probabilities: A summary of ignition probabilities/intensities is presented based on the state of the art Ignition JIP in Norway
- Tank Explosions: Collection of tank fire/explosion statistics from Lloyds Register
- Dynamic positioning (DP) failures
- Helicopter accident statistics
- Other accidents: Human errors and failure rates for technical safety components/systems
The Data Dossier presents a of plurality of data sources and makes an evaluation of the statistics for establishment of Scandpower recommended data for use in risk analysis. This provides a quality assurance and a consistency of the data.
