Ship Collision

Merchant ship traffic and traffic related to the offshore oil industry represent a risk for collision with the offshore installations. This risk potential can be calculated by collecting information about the traffic level in a specific area of interest. Scandpower provides a tool for collision frequency calculations based on the state of the art collision model applied in the North Sea for several years.

Calculation of ship collision frequencies for offshore installations typically involves the following ship traffic:

  • Merchant vessels
  • Tankers/shuttle tankers
  • Fishing vessels
  • Supply vessels and standby vessels

Further, collisions may occur during;

  • transit (vessels passing the installation)
  • vessel arrival to the field
  • loading/offloading at the installation with supply vessels
  • offloading to shuttle tankers.

The Scandpower collision model "Collrisk" is an in-house non-commercial tool for calculation of the collision frequency and the impact energies obtained from the collision.

The Collrisk tool is tailor made for utilising ship traffic data produced by the ship traffic data base for the North sea area (the COAST data base).Collision risk calculations are performed in an efficient way by use of the excel-based Collrisk tool.

The tool can easily be modified to reflect particular concerns or special target areas to be considered in your concept.
