Structural Calculations

The consequence of an accident is strongly dependant on the structural capacity of the support structures and the physical barriers effected by the incident. After calculating the explosion pressure or the fire load, Scandpower can also verify the strength of the affected structures and propose reinforcements if required.

Structural calculations are parts of the services offered by Scandpower. All accidents will affect structures one way or an other. An important mean to reduce the consequence of an accident is to ensure that the support structures and the physical barriers can withstand the accidental exposure such as explosion, fire, and impact.

Typical calculations in this respect are:

• Structural capacity of support structures and explosion barriers
• Reminding capacity of a support structure after it has been exposed to explosion pressure
• Time to collapse for a support structure exposed to fire
• Capacity of dropped object protection

The accuracy level of the analysis, and thereby the cost, should be adjusted to fit the accuracy level required for the actual risk analysis. Scandpower can perform either rough structural calculations or detailed structural analyses dependent of the requirements.
