Flow Assurance
Flow assurance and multiphase flow simulations
In the oil and gas industry, high quality risk and reliability assessments depend upon input from a wide variety of calculations. While experience and simpler calculating methods are appropriate for some cases, a number of problem areas call for use of advanced engineering tools.
Flow in pipelines, risers and inside the process plants are often complex by nature, involving transient-, multiphase-, and multi component flow. Scandpower is an experienced user of the dynamic multiphase simulator OLGA®, and have applied this tool for a number of different safety and reliability related studies:
- Evaluation of pressure protection of platform inlet arrangements
- Simulation of the dynamic behaviour during process shutdown
- Valve leakage test calibration
- Blow down and flare system capacity calculations
- Water hammer / pressure surge studies
- Pressure transients in shell and tube heat exchangers following tube rupture
- Flow assurance studies; pipeline pressure drop, slugging assessment and heat transfer calculations
- Pipeline and riser leakage calculations
The results from such studies have been used as input to Quantitative Risk Analyses (QRA), reliability evaluations of process and emergency shutdown functions (PSD/ESD) and RAM analyses including hydrate prevention studies as well as design of process safety systems.
Scandpower has also performed extensive studies for establishment of hydrate prevention strategies and optimizing hydrate prevention systems for subsea field developments.
Scandpower has a growing group of consultants located in Oslo and Trondheim trained in the use of OLGA®, as well as general fluid flow expertise in close collaboration with our CFD group. As a result, this makes Scandpower a leading partner when HSE matters of a complex physical nature need to be discussed.
